For 5 years, I was using a D-Link DSL-300g modem and it worked fine for me, I am running internet servers and two static IP address. Well, the DSL-300g started acting up and burned out. Looked inside and three of caps are done on this modem. I wanted to get a new one from Telus that had the new ADSL-2, not thinking about which one they would send, I got them to send one out to me. A friend gave me a DSL-300i to use until the new modem got here.

After a week I got it…a Siemens SE567 modem/wireless router, as I need another wireless router, I have two now. Well I got it all setup, only to find out that I cannot get this in to bridged mode, ok next I tried the port forward settings. What the hell! I cannot get it to port forward to the servers and can only get one of my two Static IP address. I did not seem to understand this, until I started to read up on this modem from Telus.

Well it seems that Telus got them from Siemens for their ADSL customers. With special software to reprogram them from Siemens, they turn a good modem into a piece of crap. The wireless is not as good as they say. Telus crippled them! The Siemens SE567 is no good to me, so I had to put the DSL-300i back on-line.

For most residential Telus customers, this modem will work ok. Some people with Xbox 360 still have trouble with it. This modem is not for business class with servers.

As fortune would have it, a customer of mine got a new modem, a Thomson Speed Touch 516v6 modem from Telus, he did not like it, and so I got him to trade it to me for the Siemens SE567 unit. He was happy and it works well for him. I got the Thompson Speed Touch setup and it works great! Better then the DSL-300g and 300i modems, faster too. I have not had ANY problems with the modem or Internet at all.

UPDATE: Bridge mode

I have not tried this yet, but it seem that you can access the hidden page to change it over to bridge mode.
